-Seus interesses de pesquisa His main research interests are the study of cellular DNA repair processes and their biological consequences (such as mutagenesis and cell death). Together with his group, he has developed systems related to gene therapy, and he has recently proposed the use of RNAi as a tool for the understanding the cell responses to genome aggression, in animal cells. celular). Considering the high levels of conservation of DNA repair genes in all living organisms, he also studies how these processes occor in plants and in bacteria. These studies also allow an evolutive approach to the projects of his group. Em conjunto com seu grupo tem desenvolvido sistemas relacionados a terapia gênica, sendo que também propõe o uso de RNAi como importante ferramenta para entender as respostas celulares a agressões no genoma, em células animais. Considerando a grande conservação dos genes de reparo de DNA nos diferentes seres vivos, também estuda como esses processos ocorrem em plantas e mesmo em bactérias (tendo ''Caulobacter crescentus'' como modelo).
