Neither genal nor pronotal combs are present, which serves to distinguish Pulex from all species likely to be found on dogs except Xenopsylla. A vertical rod-shaped thickening reinforces the mesopleuron of Xenopsylla but this structure is absent in Pulex. Ocular bristle inserted below eye.
