Anterior end, dorsal view.
The triatomine bugs are known as cone-nose bugs and by many other local names. The thorax
has a broad pronotum and from the back of this projects a long thin and downturned
scutelum. In the genus Panstrongylus the head is short and broad and the base of
the antenna is just in front of the eyes. Triatomins of the genera Panstrongylus, Triatoma
and Rhodnius transmit American trypanosomiasis or Chaga's disease. |
