The anus is in the anterior half of the anal shield.
It is differentiated from Ornithonyssus sylviarum by having three pairs of setae on the sternal shield.
In the genus Ornithonyssus the chelicerae are much stouter than thouse of Dermanyssus and the chelae are easily visible under ordinary magnification.
