Female.
The genus is also spelt Cnemidocoptes. Main body features are similar to Sarcoptes,
but the dorsal surface has only faint and irregular scales, no spines and the anus is
dorsal. The species cause mange of the legs, base of the beak, vent area, and back of
parakeets and canaries, respectively; the burrowing activity of the female is principally
responsible for the dermatitis produced. |
